TOLEDO – St. Francis de Sales School will stage the hit musical comedy Something Rotten! from April 27-30, 2023 at the Franciscan Theatre at Lourdes University.

Set in the 1590s, Something Rotten! stars the two desperate Bottom Brothers (Jeremy Szymanski ‘23 and Robbie LeBlanc ‘25) who attempt to unseat the famed William Shakespeare (Ben Bascuk ‘23) by writing the world’s first musical. Hilarity ensues when Nostradamus’ niece (Jordan Miller NDA ‘24) makes predictions about modern day musical theater that are only, well … partially accurate.

“The moral of the story, Shakespeare’s eternal words ‘To thine own self be true,’ supports our school’s mission to encourage students to ‘Be who you are and be that well,’ in the spirit of our patron, St. Francis de Sales,” said the Rev. Geoff Rose, OSFS, President.

St. Francis de Sales Musical Theatre attracts a wide array of talented students, from first-time performers (including two senior football and soccer captains) to experienced artists with more than 30 shows on their resumes. In total, more than 120 students from St. Francis, Notre Dame Academy, and St. Ursula Academy are involved in the on- and back-stage production of Something Rotten!

“St. Francis is known for its musicals, and Something Rotten! will feature the dancing, acting, and incredible Broadway-style sets audiences love,” said Mr. D. Ward Ensign, Director of Musical Theatre. “This year’s cast and crew are especially talented and will raise the bar for years to come.”

Something Rotten! is the 54th high school spring musical staged by St. Francis. The school also produces a junior high fall musical open to students grades 6-8th from all Catholic schools.

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 27, 28, and 29, and at 2 p.m. on April 30.

Tickets are on sale now at sfsknights.org/musical ($18 for adults; $15 for non-St. Francis students) and must be purchased online. For questions, contact the St. Francis Ticket Office at 419-214-5474.
