Still:Life New Paintings Opening and On View
Some two dozen new paintings in the old masters style are on view through August 29 at the Fisher / Wall Art Gallery at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Still:Life from Toledo painter Steve Mockensturm features quiet and intimate studies of the everyday.
“The lighting here is amazing,” says Mockensturm, “and when you are using a lot of chiaroscuro - very dark darks against bright lights - it really lets them shine.”
The paintings are traditional still life; jugs, bowls, bottles, fruit, etc. “I think it’s one of my earliest memories of learning how to draw. Set up a bunch of things on a shelf, look at them and render what you see. Pretty simple.” Mockensturm recollects.
An artist reception is slated for August 4 to coincide with Findlay’s Summer Art Walk. The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts is located at 200 W. Main Cross Street in Findlay, Ohio.
