Wednesday at Woodlands Concert Series Presents Music by Locoweed
Wednesday at Woodlands continues Wednesday, August 16, at 12:00 noon with Locoweed . The lunchtime concerts take place in the Woodlands Park shelter area, 429 E. Boundary Street. Bring a packed lunch and a chair or sit it at one of the many picnic tables in and around the shelter area in either the sun or shade.
Locoweed is commemorating its 50th year and is recognized as the catalyst that launched the country rock movement in Northwest Ohio. Locoweed emerged in 1973 as a trailblazing band when country and rock music seemed like polar opposites. The band's distinct sound and genre-defying music quickly developed as a unique niche. The band embraced the contrary notion they were “too country to be rock and roll, and too rock and roll to be country. The unique appeal set Locoweed on a path to national tours that included 3 booking agents who booked tours across the US and up to Alaska.
Bass player, Randy Monk, an original member of the band reflected on the band's jubilee year. “Locoweed continues to belt out that bold buckeye beat that started in 1973. We introduced the music of Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Pure Prairie League, (to name a few), to Northwest Ohio. Members have come and gone but the current lineup has remained the same since 1978". Members include Dave Athanas, lead guitar; Mike Malone, vocals, rhythm guitar; Dave Cubbedge, vocals, pedal steel, guitar; Randy Monk, vocals, bass guitar; and Rick Gerbeck on drums and percussion.
Fifty years of innovation, passion, and musicianship have shaped Locoweeds remarkable journey in the world of country rock, now known as Southern Rock. From their humble beginnings to nationwide recognition, the band’s unwavering commitment to their unique sound and genre-defying approach has created a lasting legacy that forever transformed the landscape of Toledo’s music scene and impact on the world of Southern Rock.
This concert series is made possible with the support of the City of Perrysburg and the Norma (Swaisgood) Stark Memory Garden and Labyrinth Foundation.
