THERE"S BEEN A MURDER IN THE MANSION!!
Nashville, Tennessee. Tucked inside the western bank of the Cumberland River, Nashville is known as the Athens of the South, boasting such architectural wonders as a full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon and Belle Meade Mansion, one of the first thoroughbred horse farms in the United States. Publishing and country music are two of Nashville’s many industries, and the city is home to no less than 16 institutions of higher learning, including the prestigious University that Vander built.
Located in the heart of downtown, the University is today surrounded by lovely old mansions that were once great country estates, which has become an increasingly big problem. Quite simply, the University has no room to expand its facilities without first buying and then destroying these treasured family homes. Needing to increase its medical research wing, the University’s latest property venture has ended in tragedy for a 75-year-old widow, Fannie Mae Bond. She repeatedly ignored increased offers from the University to purchase her property, the once grand Bedside Manor. When she rejected the last offer of $3 million, her children attempted to have her declared legally incompetent, a case that has enthralled the local media.
Presiding Judge Iva Hatchet, herself nearing retirement, last month dismissed the allegations as unfounded. Three days later however, it was reported that Fannie Mae had died in her sleep … or so we thought, until the Coroner discovered feathers in her throat, a clear indication she had been murdered, smothered with her own pillow. Fannie Mae is survived by two sons, Walden and Ward Bond; a daughter, Wanda B. Moore; and two grandchildren. Joining her family for the Reading of the Will are Fannie Mae’s many friends and associates . . . and quite probably her killer.
