Mosaic Ministries Hosts 8th Annual Christmas Store, Empowering Families in the Holiday Spirit
[South Toledo, 12.9.23 10am - 3pm] — Mosaic Ministries is delighted to announce the commencement of its 8th annual Christmas Store on Saturday, December 8th. The heartwarming event is designed to provide free gifts to families participating in Mosaic’s "Pregnancy to Purpose Pipeline," specifically catering to those enrolled in Baby University, parents with children attending Mosaic Early Learning Center, or the Mosaic Classical Academy.
Parents are cordially invited to peruse a thoughtfully curated selection of items arranged in two of the Academy's classrooms. Upon making their selections, they are encouraged to proceed to a designated gift wrapping area where dedicated volunteers stand ready to assist them in wrapping the chosen presents. This unique experience allows parents to actively engage in the joy of selecting gifts for all the children in their family, fostering a sense of empowerment and dignity.
The Christmas Store is made possible through the generosity of individuals, groups, and local companies. Notable contributions include a significant donation of approximately 1/3rd of the items from Camping World and Price Pro. The local men’s leadership group, F3, demonstrated remarkable support by contributing over $1,200 worth of presents. Mosaic supporters also played a crucial role, contributing about $1,000 in cash to sustain the Christmas Store. Additionally, some supporters utilized Lime to make purchases, having the items conveniently shipped directly to Mosaic.
The transformative shift in the Christmas Store's approach is rooted in the principles advocated by author Bob Lupton in "Toxic Charity." Mosaic’s Pastor, David Kaiser, shared, "We used to have a Christmas party where we gave wrapped gifts to children. But, we read 'Toxic Charity' and changed our model. He advocates for the parents to have the dignity of giving the gifts themselves."
Jeanne Crossen, a dedicated Mosaic volunteer, spearheaded an impressive effort, securing over $5,000 worth of new gifts from generous donors across the community. Reflecting on the community's generosity and the support from corporate sponsors, Crossen remarked, "It’s always incredible to see the generosity of the Toledo community and the corporate sponsors who make this event possible."
