Toledo, OH - January 14, 2024 -- In response to the harsh winter conditions in Toledo, Ohio, Toledo Hemp Center, in partnership with 13 local businesses, has collected socks to be distributed to the city's homeless community. This community effort is a testament to the spirit of Toledo, a city that takes care of its own, especially during its notoriously cold winters.
The distribution will take place on Sunday, January 14th, 2024. The socks will be handed out directly to the homeless community by the team from Toledo Hemp Center and a group of dedicated volunteers. The distribution is part of a broader initiative led by Toledo Hemp Center and local charity group, 419 Cares, which regularly serves hot meals and drinks to the homeless every Sunday.
This week, the theme of the initiative is breakfast, and Dandino's Pizza & More, a local restaurant, is generously donating several breakfast pizzas to aid in feeding the homeless. In addition to the socks and breakfast pizzas, 419 Cares will also be distributing men's and women's clothing, as well as hats and scarves, at the event.
The distribution will be located at 1717 Madison Ave, with attendees being advised to use the 18th Street entrance. The day will begin at 10am at Toledo Hemp Center, where the collected socks will be loaded onto a trailer provided by Daffy's Bar & Grill. The setup at the distribution location will start at 10:30am, with the distribution of items beginning at 11:30am.
Reflecting on the initiative, Kevin Spitler, Co-owner and operator of Toledo Hemp Center, said, "This effort is a testament to our city's commitment to supporting those who need it most. We're proud to be part of an initiative that brings businesses and volunteers together to make a real difference."
This year's sock collection initiative has seen the highest level of involvement yet, with 13 different area businesses participating. This increase in participation underscores the community's recognition of the pressing need to support the homeless during the winter months.
The collaboration between Toledo Hemp Center, 419 Cares, the local businesses, and the volunteers exemplifies the power of community and shows that when we come together, we can make a significant impact. It is a reminder that every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a big difference in someone's life.
