MultiFaith Council Annual Banquet: Keynote Teny Gross
(Toledo, Ohio) The MultiFaith Council of NW Ohio will host the first in person annual banquet since the pandemic at 5 pm on Sunday April 14, 2024. The theme is "Nonviolence in Action". The event will be held at the Islamic Society of Northwest Ohio, located at 850 S McCord Rd, Holland, OH 43528. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased on Eventbrite. The link is bit.ly/MFC24AB
The banquet will include storytelling by two local women working on nonviolence activities to improve the community. Dr. Edna Jean DPM will share her recent activities in support of Haitian refugees and Aviance Hill will discuss her response to the loss of her son and how she advocates with other parents of murdered children; most recently speaking at the House of Representatives in Washington DC. The keynote address will be Teny Gross, Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. Dinner is sponsored in part by The Grapeleaf Diner Catering. There will be space for our Muslim guests who observe evening prayers. Community leaders interested or involved in any facet of ensuring peace and safety in the City are encouraged to attend to learn more about Mr. Gross and his work.
Teny Gross
Teny Gross is renowned throughout the country for his use of Kingian principles to address violence in under-resourced urban areas. His work has garnered a number of awards and accolades including the 2015 Touro Synagogue Foundation Alexander George Teitz Award for Religious Freedom and Tolerance, the Maun Award for Outstanding Community Service from the Muslim American Dawah Center of Rhode Island, and his work in Providence, R.I. was selected as a best practice by U.S. Conference of Mayors in combating gang violence. Mr. Gross is a veteran of the Israeli Defense Force and currently volunteers for missions to spread peace between Israel and Palestine. Read more about Teny at bit.ly/TGrossBio
MultiFaith Council
The MultiFaith Council provides community leadership, facilitates programs that draw together diverse faiths and fosters mutual respect, friendship and cooperation in service to the NW Ohio. The 2024 theme is Nonviolence. It was selected from the Global Ethic document, created by representatives of the world’s religions to capture ethical commitments shared by all people, regardless of belief system. The organization's members and leadership have been using Sikh activist Valarie Kaur's Revolutionary Love curriculum and will be offering a public opportunity to study along at the banquet.
