Toledo, Ohio –

Saturday, April 20th is the 17th annual global Record Store Day, and Culture Clash is throwing the best party in town. Record Store Day launched in 2008 as a means to celebrate and promote the distinctive culture and community surrounding thousands of independently owned record stores around the world. This is a day for staff, customers, and artists to come together, celebrate their favorite indie stores, enjoy live music, and pick up a few special releases. Join us at Culture Clash as we host a celebration befitting our home in downtown Toledo, promising to entertain and energize all Saturday long.

In the nearly four years since Culture Clash Records moved downtown to 912 Monroe Street – the 137-year-old building between Michigan & 10th – this stalwart local business has received unwavering support and enthusiasm from the Toledo area’s vinyl and music communities. It has enjoyed local and national press features, and even participated in a documentary series to be announced soon! Culture Clash continues to host regular album release listening parties and live in-store performances, and expand its inventory of vinyl, CDs, tapes, books, pins, arthouse films, and more, all with a welcoming group of record store employees.

When Culture Clash opens at 10am on April 20th, there will be limited quantities of exclusive vinyl titles being released only at independent record stores on Record Store Day. RSD titles include music from Paramore, Noah Kahan, Olivia Rodrigo, Death Cab for Cutie, Fleetwood Mac, Wallows, Sabrina Carpenter, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, Slum Village, David Bowie and Toledo jazz legend Art Tatum, to name just a few.

Record Store Day will be an all-day celebration featuring performances on the Culture Clash stage, and in the parking lot, by ten local acts, kicking off at 9:30am for all those who are lined up early. Performances from Ryan Dunlap and ELMHURST will start the day, followed in the afternoon by Gut Feeling, Jon Zenz, Propolis, villagerrr, The Beetz, Sea Serpent, User927, and Malice.

Food trucks and pop-up vendors will include Sweet Nate’s Coffee, Koral Hamburg, Jikoni Toledo, Badubu Art, _transFormed_, Sage Kimani Co., ScentWick Candles, House of Dow, the Toledo Public Library Making Department, Equality Toledo, and several more vintage, art, and handmade goods vendors and local organizations!

Spring 2024 also marks Culture Clash’s 20th year in business in Toledo! To celebrate the legacy of Culture Clash, its former owner Pat O’Connor, and its predecessor store, Culture Clash is releasing a run of original-design Boogie Records t-shirts, and a brand new Culture Clash version of this iconic design, drawn by BGSU student-artist Sean Russell. Pre-orders are live on the store’s website, and will be available for purchase in-store beginning on Record Store Day.

Owners Tim and Lizzie Friedman have had a passionate interest in contributing to the creative vibrancy of their Toledo community through a mural since taking over Culture Clash in 2017. To that end, this spring also marked a momentous occasion for the store, with the installation of its first mural, on the 10th Street (west) side of the building. International visiting artists Catalina Piedrahita and Domingo Portela, of Blanco Diáfano in Totana, Spain, designed this mural with the shape and flow of the Maumee River in mind, illustrating the idea that both sides of our city are connected. Culture Clash Assistant Manager and multidisciplinary artist, Cyd Gottlieb, also contributed her talents to the piece. Guests are particularly encouraged to check out the mural on Record Store Day, but are welcome to stop by and enjoy it any day of the week!
