YWCA Annual Stand Against Racism Conference, Until Justice Just Is: Building Bridges to Equity on May 22nd
Toledo, OH: The YWCA of Northwest Ohio is proud to host the 2024 Stand Against Racism Conference, focusing on "Until Justice Just Is: Building Bridges to Equity" with Keynote Speaker, Anthony Ray Hinton. The conference will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at The Fifth Third Building, One Seagate, in Toledo, Ohio. Check-in and breakfast will begin at 8:00 AM and a buffet lunch is included.
The conference will address how we can work on dismantling systemic racism and promoting racial equity within our community. This year’s discussion will center around racial disparities within the justice system and will explore:
- Over-policing of Black and Brown Communities
- Wrongful Convictions and Solutions to these Injustices
- Collateral Consequences of Incarceration
- Reentry Challenges, Mental Trauma, and Stigmas
- Pathways to Reform and Creating a More Equitable Future
"This event is crucial for our community to learn, grow, and take action towards a more just and equitable society," said Lisa McDuffie, President and CEO of YWCA of Northwest Ohio. "By confronting these issues head- on, we can begin to dismantle the systems that perpetuate racial injustice."
Keynote Speaker: The conference welcomes Anthony Ray Hinton, who spent 30 years wrongfully convicted on death row. Mr. Hinton is the author of the NYT Best Seller, The Sun Does Shine, How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row. He will share his story of resilience, forgiveness, and advocacy for change within the justice system.
