WINE, WOMEN AND SONG: TOUR AND TASTING AT WOODLAWN
TOLEDO, OH: Woodlawn Cemetery will be hosting Wine, Women and Song, Tour and Tasting event on Saturday, September 21st, from 3:00 – 5:30 pm. Tickets are on sale for this event that will weave the story of Women in our community who collectively made and continue to make amazing contributions to our community starting in 1876 to today, followed by wine tasting, Hors d ‘Oeuvres, and song. Docent, Tedd Long along with soloist and performer Leigh Ann Jewett, will tell the amazing stories of women in our community, who live on in song, social programs, voting rights as well as local legends in horse racing. Tedd will be telling the story of these amazing women followed by Leigh Ann with a song themed to correspond with their lives work. Weaving the story about these amazing women, how they started, their struggles and their successes. After the tour participants will join us along with representatives from Heidelberg Distribution for wine tasting and Hors d ‘Oeuvres. All while wonderful Harp and Violin music preformed by Susan Hedler and & Cecilia Johnson fill the air with song, surrounded by the beauty of Woodlawn’s, towering trees, and artistic monuments.
Docent Tedd Long through his blog, podcast and tours is not only fascinated with, but also one of our areas experts on local history. With Local History Adventure Tours, Tedd focuses on interesting stories, fascinating people, beautiful art and architectural icons, and our colorful local history. Tedd refers to himself as a history geek, but mostly an over-the-top storyteller. With a fascination of how people from the past lived in completely different worlds than we do today but they still laughed and cried, had a favorite color and food, hung out with best friends and authored interesting life stories just like you and me in the 21st century. He will bring this enthusiasm to weave the story of the women of Woodlawn.
Leigh Jewett has been performing as a vocalist for 27 years and is an active supporter of and participant in local theater. She was most recently seen as the Bird Woman in the Croswell Opera House’s production of Mary Poppins.
Historic Woodlawn Cemetery and Arboretum is a National Historic Site. With more than 160 acres of scenic and rolling hills, Woodlawn, a private, non-profit cemetery, has over 40 acres of burial space available. A public mausoleum, crematory, cremation niches as well as traditional burial plots are open to people of all spiritual beliefs and ethnicities. Public programs, tours and field trips continue the rural cemetery origin to share the beauty, natural beauty, and architectural significance.
