TOLEDO, OH – The Josh Project has appointed Lawrence Butts, Jr. as its new executive director.

Mr. Butts has been a part of the Josh Project since its inception supporting the mission of helping others learn to swim as an essential life skill. “We are thrilled to have Lawrence as the new Executive Director,” says Wanda Butts, Josh Project founder. “The Josh Project is near and dear to my heart and to see the continuation of this vital program in new hands is exciting."

Lawrence assumed the role on September 1, 2024. He will continue with overseeing the day-to-day operations while working to increase enrollment, securing additional funding sources, and teaching water safety skills. “When our family lost John-Joshua, I lost a dear cousin and it was at that time, I learned the number of black youths who could not swim. Swimming is a fun sport that can be a part of our overall health goals. Most importantly, it is an essential life skill. This is why The Josh Project is open to all youth between the ages of 6 and 16,” says Lawrence.

The new executive director's introduction to the community will take place at St. Francis de Sales High School (2323 W. Bancroft, Toledo, OH 43607) this Sunday, October 6th at 2:00 pm. at The Josh Project's Fall 2024 orientation for swim lessons. Representatives from TFRD, Coast Guard and Parks & Recreation will also be in attendance for this informative and exciting event.
