Baptist wedding planned at Lutheran Church
Maumee— February 12, 2025 — Mosaic Ministries serves the very low-income neighborhood in Toledo’s Old South End. David Kaiser is the pastor of both Mosaic and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee. So, when a couple from Mosaic asked to meet him at the Courthouse on Valentine's Day to officiate their wedding, he responded that they could have a church wedding at St. Paul’s if they preferred. The bride, Traci Edinger responded that she was “crying with joy.”
“I told him I can’t afford a wedding dress or anything other than the license and thought getting married at the Courthouse was our only option,” said Edinger. “I didn’t have either a dress or anyone to give me away.”
Pastor Kaiser told her the use of the church was free of charge and that he never charges for officiating weddings. When the event was announced at St. Paul’s and on social media, the plans took off. Instead of exchanging vows at the Courthouse, the couple will have a traditional church wedding. “The congregation and community have donated the wedding dress, flowers, photography, a cake, a night at a hotel and other gift cards to help the couple get back on their feet” said Kaiser.
“It’s an incredible to see our community rally around a couple they have never met and show them the love of Jesus in such a practical way” said Kaiser. “But, maybe the best thing was the St. Paul’s man who offered to walk the bride down the aisle. He has never met her, so to support her on her wedding day is just incredible!”
Edinger gladly agreed to this stranger’s act of kindness. “All I have been doing is crying joyous tears.”
The wedding is open to the public and many St. Paul’s members plan to celebrate Traci Edinger and Martez Bush at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 112 E Wayne St. Maumee on Friday, at 4PM. The celebration is open to anyone who would like to attend.
