You have been summoned…The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is delighted to announce its upcoming production of Agatha Christie's gripping courtroom drama, "Witness for the Prosecution." This classic tale of suspense, intrigue, and unexpected twists is set to captivate audiences beginning April 25, 2025, and will run through May 4, 2025. Tickets can be purchased by visiting The Rep’s website at www.toledorep.org.

"Witness for the Prosecution" is one of Agatha Christie's most acclaimed works, originally adapted from her short story and later transformed into a stage play. The narrative revolves around Leonard Vole, a man accused of murdering a wealthy widow. With his fate hanging in the balance, Vole relies on his wife, Romaine, to testify in his defense. However, her testimony takes an unexpected turn, leading to a series of shocking revelations.

Director Nancy Wright says that “Agatha Christie is the best-known mystery writer of all time, a keen observer of dark crimes committed under the veneer of civility. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to work with a large cast on a famous play that’s both suspenseful and slyly humorous.”

This classic mid-century courtroom drama features a cast of 15 actors: including Garrett Monasmith as Leonard Vole, Brandie Culbreath as Romaine Heilger, and Gary Insch as Sir Wilfrid Robarts. Rounding out the cast are James Trumm, Liam Ellis, Jon Hunt, Sue Dessner, Martin C. Boyer, Megan Hartnett, Assumpter Ringer, Michael Schmitz, Paul Brown, Brian Keith, Griffin Gallagher, and Paige Haas. The cast brings depth and nuance to their characters, ensuring an unforgettable theatrical experience.

When asked about playing her role in the show, Brandie Culbreath said “Romaine Heilger is no ordinary hausfrau. Playing her has gifted me the opportunity to involve my German grandmother in developing my character and accent. She also helped me understand conditions in Germany at the time of this play.”

Cast member Gary Insch shared about how he is enjoying the rehearsal process, “I’ve always had a great love for the United Kingdom. My father was born and raised in Scotland, and after World War II my parents lived in London before emigrating first to Canada and eventually the United States. I was drawn to the challenge of developing the character of a British barrister. The fact that the play itself is exciting and surprisingly funny is a bonus for actors and audiences alike.”

Performances of "Witness for the Prosecution" will take place at The Toledo Repertoire Theatre located at 16 Tenth Street Theatre from April 25, 2025, to May 4, 2025. Showtimes are at 8:00 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
