Toledo, Ohio –
Saturday, April 12th is the 18th annual global Record Store Day, and Culture Clash is throwing the best party in town. Record Store Day launched in 2008 as a means to celebrate and promote the distinctive culture and community surrounding thousands of independently owned record stores around the world. This is a day for staff, customers, and artists to come together, celebrate their favorite indie stores, enjoy live music, and pick up a few special releases. Join us at Culture Clash as we host a celebration befitting our home in downtown Toledo, featuring all-day live music, a parking lot vendor fair, patio refreshments from The Switchboard, food trucks, and an unparalleled vibe.
When Culture Clash opens at 10am on April 12th, there will be limited quantities of exclusive vinyl titles being released only at independent record stores on Record Store Day. RSD titles include music from Taylor Swift, Post Malone (Nirvana), Charli XCX, Laufey, Fleetwood Mac, Wu-Tang, The Replacements, Gracie Abrams, The Cure, Wallows, Talking Heads, Waxahatchee, and Rage Against The Machine, to name just a few.
Record Store Day will be an all-day celebration featuring performances on the Culture Clash stage, and in the parking lot, by 13 local and regional acts, kicking off at 10:00am in the parking lot for all those who are lined up early. Performing in order of appearance are EMP Trio feat. Dylan Rees, Ryan Kerr, DJ Jon Zenz, The Currents, Keen Garrity, DJ Alex Action, Galen Bundy, Evin Daniels, The Beetz, MuniMula, High Draw, and The Hearththrobs.
Food trucks and pop-up vendors will include the Brick House Tattoo Bus, Sweet Nate’s Coffee, Baba’s Eats, Naan Stop Kebap, Bijoux De Terre, Stumbled Upon Vintage, Badubu Art, _transFormed_, Clemeno Candles, House of Dow, WAKT 106.1FM Community Radio, and several more vintage, art, and handmade goods vendors and local organizations!
In the nearly five years since Culture Clash Records moved downtown to 912 Monroe Street – the 138-year-old building between Michigan & 10th – this stalwart local business has continued to expand not only their inventory of vinyl, CDs, tapes, books, arthouse films, accessories, and more, but also the range of events hosted in their space, including a film screening, a community group meeting, several photoshoots, a music video shoot, and a handful of secondhand markets, all within the last year.
Despite a trying 2024 for Culture Clash and so many other local businesses, with several being forced to close, Culture Clash has pulled through thanks to grit, determination, passionate staff, and an incredible outpouring of support from their local community. Its owners have recently received their Certificate of Occupancy from the city and will soon begin featuring more frequent live music, often in collaboration with The Switchboard bar with which Culture Clash shares the first floor of 912 Monroe St.
Finally, Culture Clash is selling a limited run of t-shirts based on Plantasia – the dreamy 70’s moog album recorded for houseplants, which has been an unexpectedly beloved hit. These will be available alongside other Culture Clash merch on Record Store Day, and are available now for pre-order.
