RubyCats to celebrate ‘The Big Meow’ with Official Ribbon Cutting and Block Party on April 26
RubyCats, Toledo’s first cat café, is thrilled to announce “The Big Meow,” a community celebration and official ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The event will take place at RubyCats (618 Adams Street) in Downtown Toledo and will feature a festive block party, special guests, and plenty of feline fun.
The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with a members-only reception for the RubyCats Membership Club. The official ribbon cutting will take place at 12 p.m., followed by a public block party from 12 to 4 p.m., with support from RubyCats’ neighborhood coffee shop and community partner, Grindhrs.
“This is more than just a ribbon cutting — it’s The Big Meow,” said Tallie Carter, Founding Executive Director of RubyCats. “We’re celebrating everything we’ve built with our community and all the cats who’ve already found loving homes through RubyCats.”
Since opening on January 9, RubyCats has welcomed over 1,800 visitors and facilitated more than 20 adoptions, becoming a vibrant hub for cat lovers, animal advocates, and curious guests. “The Big Meow” celebrates these early successes and the continued mission of connecting people with cats in need.
The block party will include:
Local vendors and artisans
Music
Special Cat Café visits
A reception for RubyCats Membership Club members
Community fun with Grindhrs and other Adams Street neighbors
“We’re so excited to welcome RubyCats to the block! Their energy and mission are a perfect fit for the creative, community vibe we love on Adams Street,” said Becca Ferstle and Leann Cantrell, co-owners of Grindhrs. “We’re proud to support them and can’t wait to see more people discovering both cats and coffee right here in Downtown Toledo.”
RubyCats is a nonprofit cat café and rescue that offers 50-minute visits with adoptable cats in a cozy environment. Visitors can grab a drink from Grindhrs Coffee & Community next door and enjoy it in the café. All proceeds from visits help support RubyCats’ rescue efforts.

About RubyCats
RubyCats, which opened in January 2025, is a nonprofit cat café and rescue focused on helping adoptable cats find loving homes while offering a welcoming space for guests to relax, sip coffee, and connect with animals. The nonprofit, volunteer-run organization was founded in 2022 on a mission to help cats in need by creating an environment where all cat lovers can meet up to look for their next family pet, hang out with furry feline friends, or contribute to animal safety.
How to Support
RubyCats invites the community to support its mission by contributing through its Amazon Wishlist, which includes essential items for the cats and the café. Donations are also gratefully accepted to help provide a comfortable and enriching environment for both cats and visitors. Learn more at RubyCats.org/donate.
What is a cat café?
A cat café is a beautiful indoor place where cat lovers can come watch and interact with cats and kittens. Many of the cats are adoptable, but you do not have to intend to adopt to visit. Timed tickets are required to visit.
