Exhibiting artists Tony Bianco and Sebastien Schohn to speak at free event

Toledo, OH—May 22, 2025        20 North Gallery is pleased to welcome the artists of Exploring the Industrial Landscape: Tony Bianco and Sebastien Schohn,” an exhibition of atmospheric landscape paintings by Chesterton, Indiana artist Tony Bianco and construction site photography by Columbus, Ohio artist Sebastien Schohn, showcasing the beauty in the familiar scenes of the region known as the Rust Belt. 20 North Gallery will host a free and open-to-the-public Artists’ Talk event on Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 2 – 5 p.m.

The Artists’ Talk event begins with mingling from 2 – 2:30 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., photographer Sebastien Schohn will give a presentation on his black-and-white photography series on the American working class, which influenced his art career and his series featured in the “Exploring the Industrial Landscape” exhibit. At 3:30 p.m., painter Tony Bianco will share examples of the steps of his painting process, used to create his works in the current exhibition. A brand-new artwork featuring a Toledo, Ohio scene will be unveiled at this event. Following the artist presentations, attendees may enjoy further one-on-one conversation with the artists until 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, with a cash bar by Venue.

The two-person “Exploring the Industrial Landscape” exhibition features landscapes and still life scenes inspired by the artists’ individual experiences of working in factories and construction in the Midwestern United States. Reflecting on his unique viewpoint as a former factory worker in the steel mills of Indiana, Tony Bianco presents landscapes of factory interiors and industrial skylines. His watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings capture scenes across Indiana and Chicago, with multiple new-for-2025 depictions of Toledo, Ohio being exhibited for the first time in “Exploring the Industrial Landscape.” Sebastien Schohn, originally from Toledo, makes his commercial gallery debut with photography created while working in construction across West and Northwest Ohio. Schohn’s introspective photographs invite viewers to discover new perspectives on construction, fabrication and machinery. The exhibition will continue through June 21, 2025.

20 North Gallery art director Condessa Croninger adds, “We are delighted to welcome Tony Bianco and Sebastien Schohn in their first exhibition here at 20 North Gallery. Despite the differences in their mediums and approach to their subject matter, both artists’ work reveal striking commonality with concepts of the historic Ash Can School in American art, but with a twenty-first century Midwestern sensibility. Their detailed and highly evocative presentations reveal the unexpected and hidden grandeur of Midwest industries that were devised by the towering visions of our industrialists and entrepreneurs, as well as a celebration of the dynamism that fueled the industrial heartland and the commitment—in sweat and toil—made by the men and women whose labor empowers the American experience.”

Tony Bianco (Chesterton, Indiana)
Born and raised in Northwestern Indiana, Bianco is a primarily self-taught painter. Bianco has received numerous Purchase Awards through the annual Elkhart Juried Regional Exhibition, entering his work into corporate collections in the region. Additionally, his murals form part of the public collection of the historic Washington Park Zoo (Michigan City, Indiana). His paintings reflect his unique viewpoint as a former factory worker in the steel mills of Indiana. Recently, in 2024, Bianco enjoyed a solo exhibition, The Industrial Landscape: Paintings by Tony Bianco at the Midwest Museum of American Art.

Sebastien Schohn (Columbus, Ohio)
Sebastien Schohn’s photography is based around the American working class, nature, distorted reality and dwellings. He received a BFA in Photography from The University of Toledo in 2018. During his studies, Schohn was awarded a Wilmore Scholarship for his portfolio work. In 2018, he received a grant from The Arts Commission of Toledo, Ohio, to create and present an interactive artwork at Imagination Station in Toledo, as part of the Momentum arts festival. Schohn is currently compiling an artwork photography book for his pool series, while employed for Trimedx, a biotechnology company based out of Indiana.

In addition to the featured exhibit, 20 North Gallery continues to display glass, sculpture, paintings and jewelry by noted artists of the region. Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon to 4p.m.
