FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Retirement Fair Returns to Maumee Senior Center June 17
The Maumee Senior Center will host a one-stop-shop for retirement on June 17, 2025 from 5-7 p.m.
The retirement fair, A Passport to Retirement: The Next Chapter, is designed for people 50-70 years of age who have recently retired or who are considering retiring. The free event at the Maumee Senior Center, 2430 Detroit Ave., Maumee, will offer information from more than 30 local vendors regarding finances, insurance, employment, volunteering, fitness, hobbies and more.
New this year, Patrice Powers-Barker, an OSU Extension expert, will provide a free presentation, “Passport to Retirement: Charting Your Own Course” at 6 p.m.
“We are so excited to have Patrice present this year. Retiring is a major transition in one’s life and Patrice will be able to offer some tips on how to adjust,” said Malinda Ruble, Executive Director of the Maumee Senior Center.
In addition to the presentation, Ruble said the retirement fair is an excellent opportunity to meet one-on-one with local experts. Local representatives from banking/investments, Lucas County Auditor’s Office, insurance, realtors, fitness, volunteering and more will be available.
“We are offering people a one-stop-shop for retirement issues. Attendees will have a chance to have one-on-one conversations with a local representative to find some answers without going to 20 different websites to compare information,” she said. “If you’re looking for answers to questions like ‘When should I retire? Do I need supplemental insurance? What can I do to take better care of myself at my age? Should I get a part-time job or volunteer? What am I going to do with the rest of my life?’ then the retirement fair is where you want to be.”
Also, Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home will host a free break-out session where attendees can dive into topics a little deeper. Those attending the session, "Grief 101," will learn about ways to offer support during the grieving process.
Ruble said that having event sponsors like Savage & Associates and Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, along with all of the local businesses help to make the event a successful fundraiser for the Maumee Senior Center and a valuable resource for the community.
“As a non-profit, the Maumee Senior Center hosts a variety of fundraisers each year to stretch our dollars for services and programs for those people 60 and beyond. The demand for services continues to grow and this event helps to raise funds for services and provide information and resources to those 50 and better for the future. It’s a win-win for everyone,” Ruble said.
In addition to information, the event will offer raffles, refreshments and a chance to win a grand cash prize.
The Maumee Senior Center is a registered 501(c)3 organization which provides services and programs for people 60 years of age and older. For additional information: 419-893-1994, www.maumeeseniorcenter.com, [email protected] or stop by 2430 S. Detroit Ave.
