Indie Heist Film “Extraction, USA” Screening at Maumee Indoor Theater

The independent action-heist feature “Extraction, USA” will play at the Maumee Indoor Theater from June 15 to June 21, with a red-carpet event and filmmaker Q&A on the 20th. The film stars Leanne Johnson and Toledo’s Marlee Carpenter as two pool hustlers eager to find out if crime really does pay.
“It’s a crime story featuring two women, a little like ‘Thelma and Louise’ or ‘Love Lies Bleeding,’” said writer-director Mike Yonts. “In addition to the pool-shooting and mayhem, the story heats up romantically for the two main characters, so it’s a great film for Pride Month.”
Yonts and his crew shot the film in about 21 days in central Indiana, with significant Ohio involvement. The soundtrack features songs by independent artists, including “All a Dream,” written and performed by Carpenter, and “Y’all Ain’t Ready,” by Terra State music students Chris Hale and Kenyon McCarty. A company called Ohio Burn Unit helped create some the film’s pyrotechnic effects. And another Ohioan, Adam Michael, served as unit production manager. The film garnered awards at the Cinema Diverse Festival in Palm Springs, CA, and has screened at several theaters in the midwest.
The stars have gotten their share of attention, with Johnson appearing recently on NBC’s “Chicago PD,” and Carpenter in Lifetime’s “The Past Comes Knocking.” The red-carpet event on the 20th is open to the public and includes a Q&A with cast and filmmakers, and a musical performance my Carpenter afterwards.
“Extraction, USA” runs 91 minutes and contains profanity, violence and sexual situations. It plays at the Maumee Indoor Theater June 15-21, with a June 20 red-carpet event, filmmaker Q&A, and a musical performance by lead actress Marlee Carpenter.
