Aaron Rutter and Susan Bernard Bring a Listening Experience to Wednesday at Woodland
The Wednesday at Woodlands concert series will feature a performance by the Aaron Rutter Duo, offering a unique fusion of Latin rhythm, classical finesse, and jazz expression. The concert takes place on Wednesday, July 9. from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Woodlands Park shelter area, 429 E. Boundary Street in Perrysburg. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and find the perfect spot in the sun or shade.
The music promises to be unlike any other on this year’s lineup, spotlighting violinist Aaron Rutter and pianist Susan Bernard; two accomplished musicians whose collaboration bridges genres and traditions.
Aaron Rutter began his musical journey at the tender age of three through Suzuki violin lessons and later earned a scholarship to study Violin Performance at the University of Toledo, where he served as Concertmaster of the university orchestra. Today, he is known as a versatile and sought-after violinist, equally at home performing classical solos and duos as he is collaborating with rock bands. In addition to his performance career, he serves as a dedicated Orchestra Director for Toledo Public Schools, where he shares his passion for music with the next generation.
His duo partner, pianist Susan Bernard, brings a rich cultural heritage and stylistic content to their performances. A first-generation American with Cuban and Spanish roots, Susan studied at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and went on to receive degrees in Piano Performance and Business from the University of Miami. Her nuanced technique and rhythmic fluency offer the perfect complement to Aaron Rutter’s expressive playing.
Together, Rutter and Bernard have cultivated a sound that blends timeless Latin melodies, classical favorites, and jazz standards, offering listeners a musical experience that is both unique and warmly familiar. Their concert will appeal to all ages and musical tastes, whether you know the melodies or are hearing them for the first time.
This concert is made possible through the generous support of The City of Perrysburg, the Norma Stark Memory Garden and Labyrinth, Cathy and Charlie Gries. The event is coordinated by Main ART-ery, with sound support provided by Reel JP.
