World Affairs lecture: Europe at a Crossroads: Why Diplomacy Can't Wait

Former CIA Russia Director to Speak in Toledo on Urgent Need for Diplomacy in Europe

Featuring George Beebe of the Quincy Institute

Toledo, OH — The World Affairs Council of Northwest Ohio invites the public to an engaging and timely discussion titled “Europe at a Crossroads: Why Diplomacy Can’t Wait” featuring George Beebe, former CIA Russia Director and current Director of Grand Strategy at the Quincy Institute of Responsible Statecraft. The Quincy Institute is an “action tank” working across partisan divides to promote a world where peace is the norm and war is the exception.

The event will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the University of Toledo, Law Center, located at 1825 W. Rocket Dr. Toledo, OH 43606. The evening begins with a social hour and community displays at 5:00 PM, followed by the keynote address at 6:00 PM.

With more than two decades of experience in government as an analyst, diplomat, and policy advisor – including as CIA Russia Desk Director – Beebe brings expert insight into the current geopolitical challenges facing Europe and the urgent need for diplomacy in a shifting global landscape. His presentation will address the pressing foreign policy decisions at Europe’s doorstep.

This timely event offers attendees a unique opportunity to explore the challenges and opportunities in restoring European security through diplomatic engagement—amid global uncertainty and shifting alliances.
