Upcoming Fall Event Lineup for Lucas SWCD
The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) has several events coming up in the next few months to round out a year full of exciting programs. See what’s happening below.
New this year, Lucas SWCD is hosting three classes as a part of our Soil Health Series, each of which will provide different information and resources to help improve the overall quality of soil in your garden or on the farm. The class dates are listed below, as well as the general topic for each. Each class will begin at 5:30 PM, will be held at the Lucas SWCD office, and is free to attend. More information and registration can be found online at www.LucasSWCD.org/soilhealthseries.
- September 9th: Turning "Dirt" into Healthy Soil
- October 7th: Cover Crops & Water Quality
- November 12th: Soil Properties & Web Soil Survey
On September 23rd, Eugene Braig of Ohio State University Extension will talk to new and existing pondowners at our annual Fall Pond Clinic. Eugene will discuss pond management strategies as they relate to aquatic vegetation, but will also address other questions as they come up in discussion. The Pond Clinic is free to attend and will be held inside the Buehner Center at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark in Whitehouse. The clinic will start at 5:00 PM. Pre-registration is appreciated and can be done online at: www.LucasSWCD.org/pond-clinic. A short walk around Mallard Lake will follow the presentation (weather permitting).
The Lucas SWCD will host a Make & Take Rain Barrel Workshop on October 2nd as a part of Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week! The workshop will begin at 4:30 PM and will be held at our office in Toledo. Rain barrels are an easy and effective way to reduce your water bill while diverting water that would otherwise enter the storm sewers. Registration is now open and space is limited so register ASAP to secure a spot. Each barrel is $40. Register online at: www.LucasSWCD.org/rbworkshop.
On October 30th, the Lucas SWCD is offering Vermicomposting 101 Class at our office starting at 5:30PM. Registered participants will learn about composting, how to compost using worms, and leave with a vermicomposting tub and starter pack of worms to take home. The class is $50 per participant and space is limited. Register online at: www.LucasSWCD.org/vermicomposting.
Lucas SWCD's 61st Annual Meeting and Supervisor Election will be held on November 6th at the Ward Pavilion inside Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Tickets include dinner and can be purchased online at www.LucasSWCD.org/annual-meeting.
