20 North Gallery to open “Brenda Singletary: We Hold These Truths…”
Solo exhibition featuring mixed media sculptural paintings celebrating personal and American history
Toledo, OH—June 26, 2026 On Saturday, July 11, 2026, 20 North Gallery will open “Brenda Singletary: We Hold These Truths…,” a solo exhibition of sculptural, mixed-media paintings by internationally-acclaimed, Toledo, Ohio artist Brenda Singletary, celebrating her family’s history of military service—and our nation’s 250th anniversary.
The exhibit will open with a free Public Reception on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 6 – 8 p.m., featuring a light appetizer buffet and cash bar by Venue. The exhibition will continue through September 19, 2026.
The “Brenda Singletary: We Hold These Truths…” exhibit features Singletary’s “Love Letter to a Complicated Nation” series, wherein she combines photography, paint, wire, found objects, textured canvas and other fiber mediums—capturing emotionally complex stories layered with history. As the nation marks its Semiquincentennial anniversary, Singletary shares a body of all-new work that record & reflect on her and her ancestral reality in the United States.
Brenda Singletary (Toledo, Ohio) studied at Morris Brown College (Atlanta, Georgia) and Goddard College (Plainfield, Vermont) and has served as a panel judge for the President’s Commission on White House Fellows in Washington, D.C. She has received numerous awards and grants, including a Merit Award and multiple Accelerator Grants through the Arts Commission (Toledo, Ohio), as well as solo exhibitions—most recently at the Savage Community Gallery of Toledo Museum of Art (Ohio) in 2024. Additionally, Singletary serves as an arts instructor at the Toledo Museum of Art, as well as in her Downtown Toledo studio. She is a proud descendant of generations of U.S. military veterans.
In addition to the featured exhibit, 20 North Gallery also displays glass, sculpture, paintings and jewelry by noted artists of the region. Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon to 4p.m.
