Wednesday at Woodlands Presents The Danny Pratt Trio
Danny Pratt Brings the Spirit of the Blues to Wednesday at Woodlands
Wednesday at Woodlands continues on Wednesday, August 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Woodlands Park, 429 E. Boundary Street, Perrysburg. Bring a chair or blanket and relax in the shade or sunshine at the Woodlands Park shelter area.
This week's featured performer is Danny Pratt, an accomplished Michigan musician known for his expressive harmonica playing and thoughtful approach to the blues. The Danny Pratt Trio is drawn from his larger band, DanElectrodes, bringing vintage Chicago and West Coast blues to Wednesday at Woodlands with the spontaneity and energy that define Pratt's live performances.
Pratt began performing professionally in Ann Arbor at 16 years old, playing several nights a week before meeting Toledo blues legend Johnny Reed in 1997. Joining Johnny Reed & The House Rockers became the launching point for his career and forged a lasting connection with the Toledo music scene.
Although he was born and raised in Ann Arbor and now lives in Jackson, Michigan, he considers Toledo his musical home.
"Since 1997 I've thought of the Toledo music scene as my home base," Pratt said. "The amount of talent in Toledo is both immense and incredibly inspiring. Toledo embraces live music in a way I have not experienced anywhere else in the country."
The Danny Pratt Trio will include bassist Garth Girard and drummer David Oesterle, a rhythm section that has performed together for 35 years. Pratt has performed with Girard and Oesterle since 2009 through DanElectrodes and other musical projects.
For Pratt, the blues is about much more than playing familiar songs. "Playing music is about communication and capturing the moment," he said. "At the same time, it's about preserving the sounds and artistry of the past. We never plan those moments. They happen naturally, just as they did on those early blues recordings. Every performance becomes a conversation between the musicians while paying tribute to the artists who created this music."
Together the trio will bring music that will honor the past while creating something new in the moment.
Wednesday at Woodlands is presented by the City of Perrysburg and the Norma Stark Memory Garden and Labyrinth, with sound provided by Reel JP.
