The Village Players Presents Shakespeare’s Macbeth
A tale of ambition, betrayal, and the devastating cost of power
TOLEDO, OH — October 2026 — The Village Players Theatre invites audiences to experience one of William Shakespeare’s most haunting and enduring tragedies as Macbeth takes the stage October 30 through November 7.
Our production of Macbeth takes Shakespeare’s classic tragedy out of medieval Scotland and brings it to 1890 Appalachia. A setting that might seem unexpected at first, but has a surprising connection to the world Shakespeare created.
The Scottish Highlands and the Appalachian Mountains are connected through their shared geological history, and both regions have rich traditions of folklore, superstition, storytelling, and a strong connection to the natural world. There are also fascinating similarities between Scottish and Appalachian folklore, making Appalachia a natural fit for this story of witches, prophecy, ambition, and betrayal.
In this version of Macbeth, the rugged mountains of Appalachia become the backdrop for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s rise to power. After Macbeth encounters three mysterious figures who foretell his future, his ambition begins to take hold—and the choices he makes set both him and those around him on a dangerous path.
The Village Players’ production is directed by Zachary Tuttle-Robb, with Pippin Green serving as Assistant Director and Megan Carter as Stage Manager.
Leading the cast are Jake Spencer as Macbeth and Rachel Hetrick as Lady Macbeth, bringing Shakespeare’s iconic pair to life.
