Youmacon Returns to Detroit for Halloween Weekend, Bringing Four Days of Anime, Gaming, Cosplay and Japanese Pop Culture to Huntington Place
Michigan’s largest anime experience returns Oct. 29-Nov. 1, 2026 with thousands of fans, creators, artists and gamers expected in downtown Detroit
DETROIT – Sept. 17, 2026 — Youmacon, Detroit’s premier celebration of anime, gaming, cosplay, music, art and Japanese pop culture, returns to Huntington Place Oct. 29-Nov. 1 for four days of immersive programming, entertainment, and fan experiences.
Established in 2005, Youmacon has grown into one of the largest conventions of its type drawing 14,000 attendees last year from across the country and internationally transforming downtown Detroit into a destination for fans. Taking place over Halloween weekend, this year’s theme “Spirit and Shadows” will bring additional creativity and fandom.
From first-time convention goers to longtime anime and gaming fans, Youmacon offers an expansive lineup of experiences throughout Huntington Place.
- Vendor Hall Marketplace & Artist Alley — More than 300 vendors, artists, creators and independent makers will offer everything from collectibles and fandom merchandise to original artwork, handmade creations and unique finds.
- Cosplay — Cosplayers take center stage throughout the weekend with costumes, meetups, photoshoots and competition, creating some of Youmacon’s most visual and shareable moments.
- Gaming — A massive gaming experience includes free play video, arcade and tabletop gaming, along with tournaments and opportunities for attendees to play throughout the weekend.
- Main Stage Entertainment — Concerts, cosplay competitions, fashion shows, guest panels and other productions give attendees opportunities to see performers and creators take the stage.
- Panels & Workshops — Fans can explore anime, manga, gaming, cosplay, crafting, Japanese pop culture and other fandom-related topics through presentations and hands-on programming.
- Community Meetups — Dedicated meetups and photoshoots bring together fans who share interests ranging from specific anime and games to cosplay, music and Japanese pop culture.
"Youmacon is a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. But it’s so much more than a convention, it’s a community,” said Eric Gaiser, Youmacon chairman. “For four days, attendees have the opportunity to connect with other people who share their interests, discover new artists and creators, celebrate their favorite fandoms and experience everything Youmacon and Detroit have to offer.”
Youmacon 2026 will also feature new and expanded opportunities to connect with the Detroit community and give back.
NEW THIS YEAR - Free Weekend Badges for Detroit First Responders
As a thank-you to those who serve the city, City of Detroit Police, Firefighters and EMT personnel will receive a complimentary weekend badge to Youmacon. Eligible personnel may claim their free badge at the door with valid ID.
Youmacon will continue its commitment to charitable giving through its Annual Charity Ball and partnership with Extra Life, the fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This year’s beneficiary is Corewell Health Children’s in Royal Oak. In the past two years, Youmacon has donated over $20,000 in addition to toys and merchandise. The convention will also participate in a charity exchange with the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit and Ikebana International, bringing together fandom, community and cultural connections.
Additional highlights include Otaku Cabaret Fri. Oct. 30, Senpai Squad Rave and International Cosplay Competition on Sat. Oct. 31, expanded 18+ section, larger gaming hall, and return of Japanese voice actors
“Beyond the massive marketplace, gaming hall, concerts, and special guests, this year is deeply rooted in community, and we are pleased to expand our presence in the city by honoring Detroit's first responders and continuing our charitable partnership with Extra Life to assist children locally," said Gaiser.
